Fitting Recovery Into Your Life: Who You Are
ANAD and Equip are committed to providing inclusive and affirming care and support. Virtual programs help us overcome traditional barriers such as limited local resources or identity-based treatment options. In this new virtual age of care, we are able to connect individuals of all backgrounds with their peers and treatment options regardless of their physical location. Learn more in our conversation with Equip Peer Mentor and ANAD Volunteer Jazzi.
Honoring your background, experience, and identity
Eating disorder treatment and support should never come from a “copy-and-paste” approach. It’s important that our individual experiences and identities be recognized, honored, and respected when seeking care.
Tackling traditional barriers and challenges
Unfortunately, there are many other individuals out there who run into the barriers and challenges Jazzi faced when they were looking for treatment. Virtual care opens up the number of potential provider options from both a geographical and gender- or identity- affirming perspective.

Increasing accessibility and privacy
Whether it’s Equip’s diverse and inclusive community of providers or ANAD’s nationwide network of volunteers, virtual care and support gives you the opportunity to connect with someone you can relate to! Virtual care also provides a level of privacy that might not be available with more traditional forms of treatment.
Finding community and understanding
As Jazzi reminds us, we can all learn and grow from each other. Virtual care and support present an opportunity at the connection so many of us need in order to heal. No matter how far apart we may live or how different our experiences may be, this virtual age is bringing us together like never before!

Building bridges and creating hope
ANAD Peer Mentor and former support group attendee Oana shares how she found connection with fellow immigrants thanks to ANAD's virtual peer support groups. Something that would have been much more difficult in a physical support setting.
