Toby Schwartz, LCSW-R

I have 12 years of experience working as a psychotherapist. After graduating from New York University School of Social Work, I spent nearly 7 years working in a community based mental health clinic. I started my private practice, located in Midtown Manhattan, in 2013. I provide services for general mental health concerns, with a focus on eating disorders, weight inclusivity, body image disturbance, anxiety, relational difficulties, and early childhood trauma. I am particularly interested in trauma associated with growing up in a larger body and how it impacts present functioning.

In addition to my MSW degree, I have post graduate training in Eating Disorders, Addictions, Trauma, and am a certified Intuitive Eating Counselor. I use an integrative approach to psychotherapy. The first step is to create a strong therapeutic relationship by providing a safe and non-judgmental environment. I look at both present functioning as well as past experiences in order to understand what is happening beneath the surface. In addition, I help people identify, understand, and tolerate all emotions. When necessary, I use mindfulness and grounding exercises in order to reduce anxiety and stay in the present.
