Michaela Whitehead, MS, NCC, LPC, CEDS
For Michaela Whitehead, working as a psychotherapist is not only a career, but a calling. Above all else, she believes in the resiliency of the human spirit and the power of transformative growth. Michaela is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) as well as a Nationally Certified Counselor (NCC) and an internationally credentialed Certified Eating Disorder Specialist (CEDS). She originally began her clinical work in Memphis, TN. She has been working in the mental health field since 2009, and her professional experience was gained in a variety of clinical settings, including a college counseling center, a private rehabilitation facility, a community mental health agency, and a domestic violence safe house.
Michaela holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a Master’s of Science in Counseling, both from the University of Memphis. Her specialty areas of practice include eating disorders, trauma, and complicated bereavement. She uses a holistic, person-centered approach to therapy and works as a team with her clients to help them achieve physical, emotional, and spiritual balance.
Michaela feels fortunate to help clients in their journeys towards eating disorder recovery. Practicing from a Health At Every Size (HAES) based approach, Michaela believes that all bodies are good bodies and all humans are worthy of body acceptance and healing in their relationship with food and movement. In addition to working with clients battling eating disorders, Michaela provides support for survivors of abuse. She incorporates Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) and the Instinctual Trauma Response (ITR) to help these clients work through past trauma and complicated grief.
