November is a great month in a lot of ways – fall is out in full force, pumpkins are gracing front
steps, and let’s not forget the incredible magic of putting on that super comfy sweatshirt during
the first 60 (ok 50) degree day.

But fall, in all its transition with back to school and the end of the year slowly approaching (not
to mention the daily strains and pressures of our everyday lives), can also be a really hard and
stressful time. If you find that you’re struggling with heading back to school, experiencing a job
change, or any other thing that’s got you feeling unsettled, we’ve compiled a list of resources
on where you can find help and support.

Source your network!
Oftentimes, the people who are our first connection to that next step are those we either see
every day or who work/live next to us. If you’re a student, your guidance counselor or a teacher
you trust are great people to reach out to. If you’re no longer in school, a faith leader, trusted
family member or friend, or even a quick search online can point you in unexpectedly helpful
directions.

But no matter what, the most important (and brave) thing to do is first simply talk to someone
you feel comfortable with. From there, an eating disorder, anxiety, depression, or other
concern will no longer feel like something you have to manage on your own.

Local Resources and National Suggestions
Chicago Public School Office of Student Health and Wellness. They are committed to ensuring
the health equity of all students and removing health-related barriers to learning and academic
success. If you are concerned that a health issue or eating disorder is holding a loved one back,
you can contact the Office of Student Health and Wellness at 773-553-3560 or .
Colleges/Universities- Chicago is lucky to host an array of incredible colleges and universities
ranging from Malcolm X to Northwestern. In addition to impressive academics, each of these
schools also have counseling and therapy centers for students needing help. While not
exhaustive, the contact information for counseling centers are as follows:

● University of Chicago- Student Health and Counseling Services
● Northwestern University- Counseling and Psychological Services
● University of Illinois at Chicago- Counseling Center
● Loyola University at Chicago- Wellness Center
● Malcom X College- Wellness Center

And for those of you who don’t live in this incredible polar-vortex city (ok, maybe not the polar
vortex), no worries! No matter where you find yourself, places you can go to that almost always
have referral services include-

● libraries
● town centers
● academic advisers
● community groups
● faith-based organizations
● university health centers

And these are just to name a few! But no matter where you go or who you talk to, the main
thing is to remember that you’re not alone and that there are people dedicated to supporting
you. If ever you find yourself in need of help for an eating disorder or other challenges, these
are great places to turn to in addition to trusted family and friends.

Also, don’t forget that ANAD’s helpline, available Monday-Friday from 9am-5pm is an accessible
and free resource, in addition to the National Eating Disorder Association open Monday-
Thursday from 9am-9pm and Friday from 9am-5pm.
