The Value of Support Groups.

  • ANAD Support Groups serve as a useful adjunct to treatment.
  • Recent research has shown that according to patients, self-help support groups are one of the most valuable experiences in the recovery process.


How to form a support group. Support Group Leader form.

  • If you believe there is a need for a support group in your area, and if you are a lay person, we encourage you to find a proessional advisor. This can be an M.D., a Ph.D., a psychologist, or a social worker who will be available to offer advice on problems and to answer questions.
  • You will need to establish a time and place for your meeting(s).
  • Review the Support Group packet that features the ANAD Booklet: Applying New Attitudes and Directions. The contents include:
    • 8-Step self-help program
    • Principles toward recovery
    • Goal-setting
    • Group Guidelines
    • Recovery success stories
    • Suggestions for healthy group interaction
  • The Support Group Packet also includes educational materials and other detailed support group information.
  • As an ANAD Support Group leader you will receive quarterly newsletters, Working Together.
  • Your support group will be listed on ANAD’s data base for referrals, and if you wish it will be listed in the Support Group section of this web site.
